Hartlepool United have signed centre-back Ben Pollock and full-back James Martin on undisclosed terms, following a successful trials.

Pollock, 18, has signed his first professional contract after being released by Newcastle United's academy earlier in the year.

Martin, 17, was on scholarship at Scottish side Queen of the South.

The pair take Pools' summer recruitment tally to three following the arrival of goalkeeper Ben Dudzinski.

Central defender Pollock is the son of former Middlesbrough and Manchester City midfielder Jamie Pollock, and had spells with Leeds and Boro before his move to Newcastle.

"We spotted potential in Ben," boss Craig Hignett told the club website., external

"He did very well during his trial period. The thing with Ben is that his attitude is unbelievable - he's a good kid who is hungry and ambitious to do well in the game.

"James is another who has caught our eye and has great potential."
