Smith, 25, has played 92 games since his move from Oldham in June 2014.
The former Norwich, Barnsley and Yeovil player underwent ankle surgery at the end of the previous campaign to ensure his fitness for the season ahead.
"Korey is everything we are about. I think this is as big as the new signings we've already made," boss Lee Johnson told the club website., external
Johnson previously worked with Smith at Oldham, but allowed him to move to Ashton Gate before being reunited with the player on taking the job of head coach.
