League Two side Stirling Albion got the better of Championship outfit Falkirk to get their Scottish League Cup campaign off to a flying start.

In the other game in Group B, St Johnstone toiled for a while away to Elgin City but eventually managed a 3-1 win.

Stirling took the lead when Darren Smith bundled Eddie Fern's cross into the net for the home side.

Ferns missed a glorious chance to make it two but put his effort wide.

At Borough Briggs, Jamie Duff equalised for Elgin after Danny Swanson had put Premiership side St Johnstone ahead.

But Graham Cummins rounded the goalkeeper to put Saints back in front with 20 minutes to go.

And Steven MacLean sealed victory for Tommy Wright's men when he got on to the end of a cross and nudged it home.
