Newport County boss Warren Feeney admits striker Lenell John-Lewis will be out of action for the foreseeable future after a serious knee injury.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during a friendly at Caldicot Town on Friday, 8 July.

John-Lewis, signed from Grimsby Town in summer 2015, has one year left on his contract.

"We haven't put a timescale on it, but he will definitely be out probably until after Christmas," said Feeney.

"It's unfortunate for the lad because he's a great player, a great person.

"It's going to be a long one... but it would be fantastic to see him before the end of the season."

The Exiles begin their League Two season at home to Mansfield Town on Saturday.
