Newport County: Steve Cotterill turns down chance to succeed Warren Feeney

Steve Cotterill's playing career included spells at Wimbledon and Bournemouth

Steve Cotterill has rejected the chance to become the next Newport County boss.

Newport hoped the former Bristol City manager would succeed Warren Feeney.

Feeney was sacked on Wednesday with the Exiles bottom of League Two. Former Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has also ruled himself out of the running to replace Feeney at Rodney Parade.

The Exiles are now compiling a shortlist of potential candidates, with former Crawley boss Mark Yates under consideration.

Other contenders for the job include ex-Eastleigh boss Chris Todd, former Forest Green manager Adrian Pennock and former Swansea assistant coach Colin Pascoe, who would be assisted by ex-Wales defender Paul Bodin.

The Exiles are also understood to have contacted former England U21 boss Peter Taylor.

Cotterill, who has also managed Stoke, Cheltenham and Burnley among others, was sacked by Bristol City in January.
