Ross Allen expects to return to action with Guernsey in March 2017

Guernsey FC's Ross Allen is to take a break from football to go travelling.

The prolific striker, who has scored 224 goals in 203 games since August 2011, will be available to play until his planned departure in November.

"It's got nothing to do with football, it's a personal decision and something I've been wanting to do for years," Allen, 29, told BBC Guernsey.

"It feels like the right time. If I don't do it now, I'll probably never do it. I want to see the world."

Guernsey are currently 17th in Isthmian League Division South, the eighth tier of English football, with only two league wins so far this season.

Allen continued: "Our position in the table might not show it, but I think we're the strongest we've ever been in terms of the squad, the players available, talent, and the balance between senior lads and the players coming through.

"It's a really exciting time for the club and I feel now I can maybe take a little bit of a step back at this time and allow someone else a chance."

he expects to return from his trip in March and will then resume his career with the island side.

"I'll be straight back into training, fighting for a place in the team and helping the team towards the end of the season," he said.
