Shrewsbury Town caretaker boss Danny Coyne says he is not interested in the managerial vacancy at the club.

Micky Mellon left struggling Shrewsbury on Thursday to become the new boss at National League side Tranmere Rovers.

Goalkeeping coach Coyne, 43, is taking temporary charge for Saturday's trip to Bradford but told BBC Radio Shropshire: "I'm not cut out to be a manager. It's not something I'd be interested in."

Former Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill has also ruled himself out.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley has been linked with the vacancy, while former Shrewsbury defender Nigel Pearson and three ex-Wolves bosses, Dean Saunders, Kenny Jackett and Dave Jones, are all also said to be among the contenders for the job.

Bookmakers had made Cotterill, 52, an early favourite to take over and he said he had a lot of respect for the club and chairman Roland Wycherley, but will not be applying.

Cotterill was sacked by Championship side Bristol City in January, having previously managed Nottingham Forest, Portsmouth, Notts County, Burnley, Stoke, Cheltenham Town and Sligo Rovers.

Shrewsbury are 22nd in League One, with 10 points from their first 11 games of the season.
