FA Cup: Eastleigh give match proceeds to North Leigh

Eastleigh chairman Stewart Donald's company also sponsors North Leigh

National League side Eastleigh donated the match proceeds from their FA Cup final qualifying round win over North Leigh to their eighth-tier opponents.

The gesture was made by Spitfires chairman Stewart Donald, whose company sponsors the Southern League Division One South and West club.

Eastleigh, who reached the third round of the FA Cup last season, won 6-0 in a game attended by 889 spectators.

The club earned £12,500 prize money for reaching the first round proper.

Oxfordshire-based North Leigh thanked their opponents for the donation in a tweet sent shortly after the game.

BBC Radio Solent's Eastleigh commentator Ian Wilding said: "Eastleigh were a community club before Stewart Donald arrived and they've kept that going by helping other teams, and forging relationships with other clubs.

"Even if they get into League One or League Two, I think they will keep those principles going.

"I think it's a fantastic gesture. Last season, when Scott Rendall was injured for a year at Woking, Donald helped pay for his medical fees.

"He does a lot of things like that which are good for him and good for the club as well."

Eastleigh's donation was praised by fans and other teams on Twitter.
