Rob Edwards says taking charge of his first game as Wolves interim head coach will feel like "making my debut again".

Walter Zenga was sacked on Tuesday after 87 days in the job and ex-Wolves defender Edwards, 33, has stepped up from his role as first-team coach.

Wolves face Blackburn at Ewood Park on Saturday and will aim for their first Championship win since 24 September.

"There will be a lot of emotions going through my head - most of them positive," Edwards told BBC WM 95.6.

"I'm really excited - I'll be confident but there will be some nerves.

"It'll almost be like making my debut all over again but that went well. We won 1-0, so I'm hoping for the same sort of result."

Edwards is the third man to take charge of Wolves since Chinese group Fosun bought the club in July and he knows his reign could be a very short one.

"I know they'll be looking for the next candidate and my job is to take the team for however long it takes and I'm fine with that," said Edwards, who played 111 times in four years as a Wanderers player and retired aged 30 in 2013.

"It's a big responsibility but what an opportunity - even if it only happens once.

"I haven't allowed myself to think about it (the prospect of having the job full-time). I've had to focus on getting everything right for this game."

Despite only working with Zenga for three months, Edwards says he will use the things he picked up from the Italian and other managers he has had in his career.

"Walter had a clear vision about the way he wanted to play and his methodology was very interesting - I learnt many things from him," added Edwards.

"Mick McCarthy always used to speak to the players who weren't playing and tell them why and that was brilliant - I will always take that and try to be the best person I can be."
