Lee Wallace: Rangers boss makes Scotland case for left-back

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan should have no concerns about playing Lee Wallace against England, according to his Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

The Ibrox skipper is a contender for next month's World Cup qualifier at Wembley after Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney were ruled out through injury.

Left-back Wallace won the last of his eight caps in November 2013.

"He is a top-class professional and an outstanding captain of the club," said Warburton.

"I have no doubts about Lee Wallace."

The 29-year-old opened the scoring in Rangers' 3-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday and has been involved in Strachan's squads before.

Swansea's Stephen Kingsley, Aberdeen's Graeme Shinnie or versatile Blackburn defender Charlie Mulgrew are other options.

Scotland are three points behind Group F leaders England after three matches.

The old rivals meet on 11 November, with Strachan naming his pool of players on Wednesday.

Hull City's Robertson is out for "up to eight weeks" with a calf problem, while Celtic teenager Tierney is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the year with ankle ligament damage.

Robertson's club-mate Robert Snodgrass is a doubt for the Wembley visit as he recovers from an ankle injury.
