Leigh Griffiths does not think a rare start - and a scoring one - for Celtic will be enough for him to force his way into the Scotland XI against England.

The 26-year-old was chosen beside in-form Moussa Dembele for the 3-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Asked if he thought he would start at Wembley on Friday, Griffiths replied: "Probably not, but that's up to Mr Strachan and what he wants to do.

"If not, I'll sit on the bench and try and have an impact if I come on."

It had looked like Celtic captain Scott Brown, who cut short his international retirement ahead of the Scotland squad announcement, would also be a doubtful starter at Wembley after going off injured after 63 minutes.

But the 31-year-old has eased those fears by telling BBC Scotland he is fine and that he suffered a dead leg.

Brown was captain under head coach Gordon Strachan until the midfielder called time on his international career before the current World Cup qualifying campaign.

He will win his 51st cap should he be declared fit ahead of the Group C match in London.

Griffiths, who made his Scotland debut in 2012, has only played nine times for his country and is well aware that Strachan does not see him as a natural fit for the system he thinks best suits the players at his disposal.

"I'll try to train well all week and, if he wants me in the team, great," he said, recognising that a lack of starts for Celtic in recent weeks has not helped his cause.

"I've not been playing as much as I'd like, but the only way I can change the gaffer's mind here and with Scotland is to come in and score as many goals as I can.

"I'm delighted to pull on a Scotland jersey any time I can."

The goal against Caley Thistle was Griffiths' first in nine games for club and country.

He hopes it came just in time to remind Strachan of the potency of a striker who found the net 40 times last season - and eight in his first 10 outings of the season before injury allowed Dembele to claim the single striker role preferred by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers had switched to a three-man defence against Caley Thistle, allowing him to play twin strikers against opponents that frustrated his side earlier in the season at Caledonian Stadium.

However, Griffiths will be back to vying for one striking role under Strachan for Scotland against England.

"It's one of those games that you want to be involved in and I know we have the players that can cause them problems," added the Celtic striker.
