Phillip Chiyangwa is voted in, unopposed, as the new Cosafa president

Phillip Chiyangwa takes over as Cosafa president from Suketu Patel who did not stand for election.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) confirmed on Saturday that Phillip Chiyangwa had been voted in as the new president of Cosafa, the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations.

Chiyangwa, the president of Zimbabwe's Football Association stood unopposed at Cosafa's Annual General Meeting at Sun City in South Africa.

He takes over from Suketu Patel, who, according to Caf,, external decided not to stand for office having completed two terms as president.

In September, Patel had also withdrawn from the race for the two extra African places on the Fifa Council.

Another contender in the race for Cosafa president, Dr Danny Jordaan from the South Africa Football Association, had withdrawn as a contender before the vote.

Frans Mbidi of Namibia was voted in as vice-president for the next five years.
