Non-league Barrow's hopes of reaching the FA Cup fourth round for the first time were dashed as two goals by Ian Henderson earned Rochdale victory.
Henderson was well placed to meet a Steven Davies corner to put the League One visitors ahead.
National League Barrow were denied an equaliser when Conrad Logan kept out Richie Bennett and Moussa Diarra.
Henderson sealed Rochdale 's place in the next round with a composed finish after Oliver Rathbone's through-ball.
'Sense of pride'
Barrow manager Paul Cox: "There has to be a sense of pride that we've gone as far as we have.
"I'd love to have seen us be a bit more clinical in the last third but overall I don't think we did enough realistically to win the game.
"The boys have worked hard, we tried to go and get back into it, even throwing Moussa Diarra on up top. We tried to affect the game, but the day just wasn't to be."
Rochdale boss Keith Hill: "There was no fear of losing this football match and I don't think a shock was ever on the cards.
"I'm not bothered who we get in the next round because we just want to go as far as we possibly can.
"I know I've got a good, young, energetic side with some really good experienced players and if we all do the right thing and continue performing like we are doing, then anything is possible."
