Guiseley 0-1 Hartlepool United

  • Published

Craig Harrison secured his first win as Hartlepool manager at the seventh attempt as they held on for a 1-0 win at Guiseley.

The home side came agonisingly close to the opening goal after four minutes but Frank Mulhern's header crashed back off the underside of the crossbar and was cleared.

First-half chances were at a premium after that, with a weak effort from forward Devante Rodney all a Hartlepool side low on confidence could muster.

Rodney brought a decent save from goalkeeper Joe Green seconds after the restart, and Pools did break the deadlock from their next attack as Jonathan Franks smashed home from 10 yards.

Hartlepool goalkeeper Scott Loach pulled off a stunning double save to deny Danny Lowe and the follow-up header from substitute Kayode Odejayi as Guiseley pushed for an equaliser, but the visitors held on.
