2018 World Cup: Burkina Faso top Group D after late goal

Sadio Mane's 75th-minute goal had looked like moving Senegal top of Group D

Ten-man Burkina Faso scored a late equaliser to draw 2-2 with Senegal in Ouagadougou and so stay of Group D.

After 88 minutes, Senegal were leading 2-1 and moving top of the group only for Alain Traore's free-kick to bounce into the net off Senegal's goalkeeper.

Traore's younger brother Bertrand had opened the scoring before Ismaila Sarr levelled after 27 minutes.

Despite Issoufou Dayo seeing red before half-time, Burkina Faso cancelled out Sadio Mane's 75th-minute goal.

Traore whipped in a free-kick from the flanks which hit the post before ricocheting off Pape N'Diaye, Senegal's unfortunate goalkeeper, into the goal to give the hosts a precious point.

Burkina Faso move up to six points, level with Cape Verde who stunned South Africa with a 2-1 win earlier in Durban.

Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues scored both Cape Verde goals to briefly lift his side top of the group, having been bottom at the start of the day.

Rodrigues' first came from a free-kick while his second, after 67 minutes, was a bending strike from outside the box.

Andile Jali reduced the deficit two minutes from time.

Prior to last week, Cape Verde had not scored a goal in the group but successive 2-1 wins, the first of which came in Praia on Friday, have turned their fortunes around.

Meanwhile, South Africa coach Stuart Baxter will face searching questions as South Africa face the prospect of yet another qualifying failure.
