Exeter City 4-1 Morecambe

  • Published

Exeter returned to winning ways with an emphatic win against Morecambe at St James' Park.

The Grecians went in front after 20 minutes when Lloyd James' corner caused havoc inside the Morecambe box and the ball was scrambled over the line, with Troy Brown claiming to have got the final touch.

Pierce Sweeney then side-footed wide for Exeter before Jayden Stockley made it 2-0 in the 25th minute with a brilliant thumping finish on the half-turn from eight yards after a lovely passing move.

Morecambe reduced the arrears after 38 minutes when Garry Thompson's shot was spilled by Christy Pym and Vadaine Oliver reacted quickest to tap in the loose ball from six yards.

Stockley then made it 3-1 on the stroke of half-time when he took a Dean Moxey throw, lofted it over the head of a defender and smashed a fine shot into the back of the net.

Stockley missed several good chances to net his hat-trick in the second half, but a dominant Exeter display was crowned in the 49th minute when Stockley slipped in Moxey, who scored his first goal since rejoining the club in the summer.
