Edinson Cavani scored in his sixth consecutive Champions League game

Paris St-Germain outgunned Bayern Munich in a heavyweight Champions League showdown to go three points clear at the top of Group B.

Dani Alves fired the hosts into the lead after just 84 seconds following a great run and pass by Neymar.

Alphonse Areola produced a flying save to deny Javi Martinez an equaliser before PSG sealed the points.

Edinson Cavani's first time shot doubled the lead before Neymar made it 3-0 from close range.

Elsewhere in Group B, Celtic won 3-0 away to Anderlecht and are level on points with Bayern.

PSG the real deal?

The last time PSG played one of Europe's biggest clubs in the Champions League they were crushed 6-1 by Barcelona at the last-16 stage last season.

PSG boss Unai Emery included six players from that game yet it was new addition Kylian Mbappe who stole the show with an outstanding attacking display which included two assists.

Bayern, five-time European champions, struggled to deal with the teenager's lightning pace.

His run into the Bayern penalty area led to Neymar firing home from inside the six-yard box to put the game out of sight.

The Germans had found themselves 2-0 down by the interval.

Fans were still taking their seats at the beginning of the game when Alves' low finish from an angle broke the deadlock after intelligent play by his former Barcelona team-mate Neymar.

The second goal was sumptuous, Cavani finding the net with a first-time strike from just outside the area with Mbappe again involved.

Neymar led the congratulations for the Uruguayan, who this week denied reports that he had been offered a one million euro (£881,000) payment, external to relinquish penalty duties to his Brazilian team-mate..

PSG have never won the Champions League but they look serious contenders on this evidence.

Worrying times for Bayern

Bayern forced 18 corners and peppered the PSG goal with 16 shots yet lacked the ruthlessness of their opponents.

It might have been a different story had Martinez's shot made it 1-1. Instead Areola produced a fine save on a night to forget for Carlo Ancelotti on his return to his former club.

Substitute Kingsley Coman was also denied by Areola as Bayern slumped to a fifth away defeat in nine European away games.

Together with their stuttering domestic form - the Bundesliga champions have already dropped five points in the first six games - and it has been a far from convincing start to the season for Bayern.
