Cristiano Ronaldo's goal was his first in four La Liga matches this season

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late winner as Real Madrid won at Getafe to move up to second position in La Liga.

Real, who were without the injured Gareth Bale, started the day in fifth position and went ahead just before half-time through Karim Benzema's goal.

The hosts equalised in the second half when Jorge Molina slid the ball past Real goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

Ronaldo missed a chance from two yards but scored the winner with a fine finish from Isco's clever chipped pass.

The victory is Real's fourth successive win in all competitions and La Liga leaders Barcelona drew 1-1 at Atletico Madrid in the late game on Saturday.

Ronaldo served a five-game suspension in August and September after he was sent off and then pushed a referee in Real's 3-1 win against Barcelona in the Super Cup on 14 August.

Real, who won the Champions League and La Liga last season, dropped four points when Ronaldo was suspended, and then suffered a shock 1-0 home loss to Real Betis on 20 September in his first domestic game back after his ban.

Real's next match is on Tuesday when they entertain Tottenham in the Champions League.
