Frazier Campbell has scored three goals for Hull City this season

Frazier Campbell scored the only goal of the game as Hull City beat Barnsley to seal their first league win away from home for 427 days.

In a quiet first half, Adam Hammill almost broke the deadlock for the hosts when he shot wide from long range.

Ike Ugbo nearly put Barnsley ahead after the break when he curled his shot just wide of the mark.

But Campbell ensured a first Hull away victory since August 2016 when he poked home from Seb Larsson's corner.

Hull went into the game after picking up just six points out of a possible 72 on their travels since beating Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League last season.

But after a dull game which Barnsley had dominated until the closing stages, Hull sealed a vital three points courtesy of summer signing Campbell, who slotted home his third goal of the campaign.

The win was also Hull's first clean sheet at Oakwell since their 2-0 win against the Tykes in January of 1989.

The Tigers moved up a place to 14th in the Championship table, while Barnsley remained 19th thanks to Reading's defeat by Sheffield United.

Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom:

"I said to the players that I'm upset for them and angry with them. Upset that they've not got the result - I can't say deserved, as we didn't take our chances. We didn't capitalise when we were dominant.

"And I'm angry because their two attempts on goal - or two on target should I say - both came from set-plays, from corners. When you're not scoring or not capitalising at one end then you've got to be faultless in every other bit, so we weren't today.

"I was looking at half-time, no shots, no crosses, nothing [for Hull] and I've never seen that. I was happy with how we were playing, just not happy with the end product."

Hull City boss Leonid Slutsky:

"We didn't play the best match. But for us, it was very important to win because it was like a demon, one year without an away win.

"Today was the first Yorkshire derby for me, with a lot of supporters and I'm very thankful for our supporters. It was unbelievable support, like always.

"Maybe we did not deserve the win but I think we deserved the win for all of the time, all away matches. Today, luck was on our side and I am very happy.

"Campbell is the first forward now. He's very aggressive, he's a very strong individual and a leader of the team, but he needs more than three weeks. It's difficult for him to play the whole 90 minutes."
