Wrexham joined table-topping Dover on 33 points in the National League with a huge win over their biggest rivals.

The derby match was delayed due to traffic congestion and Wrexham took the advantage just before half-time.

Shaun Pearson headed home from Marcus Kelly's free-kick after Jordan Archer's header went just wide for Chester.

Lucas Dawson struck the post and James Akintunde the crossbar as Chester searched for a second-half equaliser in front of a crowd of over 4000.

Chester remain 22nd in the table on 16 points and gave a reprieve to Guiseley who would have slipped into the relegation zone had the hosts collected a point.

Wrexham manager Dean Keates told BBC Radio Wales: "I enjoy winning any game, but there is a bit more spice with it being a local derby and we have given the fans what they want, which is three points.

"On another day we might have conceded but we've come away from home and been well organised and disciplined.

"We've won 1-0 and kept a clean sheet. The lads gave everything, even though it wasn't great at times.

"It's nice, it is a local derby and I know what it means to the fans, the town and the football club.

"The table is tight... but we are competing and that is where we need to be."
