Preston ended a four-match losing streak in the Championship

Bolton missed the opportunity to move out of the Championship relegation zone by drawing at local rivals Preston.

Preston's Paul Gallagher shot straight at Ben Alnwick and created chances for Andrew Boyle and Tom Barkhuizen.

In a game of few openings, Adam Armstrong tested Lilywhites stopper Chris Maxwell after the break and Karl Henry shot narrowly over the bar.

Preston ended a four-game losing streak while Wanderers extended their unbeaten run to six league matches.

The derby meeting at Deepdale was low on quality and both sides seemed happy to settle for a point.

Boyle and Barkhuizen both saw headers go inches wide of the post in the opening half hour before a fierce half-volley from Bolton's Josh Vela was tipped over by Maxwell.

Preston were restricted to long-range shots in the second half, with Callum Robinson and Alan Browne having routine efforts saved by Alnwick.

The Trotters move up a place to 22nd in the table while Preston go 13th before Saturday's fixtures.
