Albert Adomah has eight goals to his name this season

Albert Adomah scored in each half as Aston Villa come from a goal down to beat QPR and consolidate their Championship play-off position.

Rangers led when Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone failed to deal with a corner and Jamie Mackie poked in from a yard.

Alex Smithies denied Josh Onomah and Keinan Davis before Adomah netted from the spot after Jack Robinson handled.

The Ghana winger completed the comeback by firing in off the far post to move Steve Bruce's side up to fifth place.

Villa have won four times away in the league this season - as many as in 2016-17 - and triumphed from behind on the road for the first time since August 2013, when they won 3-1 at Arsenal.

Ian Holloway's QPR have fallen to back-to-back defeats, having lost 4-0 at Nottingham Forest before the international break.

The visitors were without strikers Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan and Gabby Agbonlahor because of injury - as well as captain John Terry - but top scorer Adomah was clinical in attack.

Mile Jedinak - Australia's hat-trick hero in their World Cup play-off win over Honduras in midweek - played the last 10 minutes for Villa while his international team-mate Massimo Luongo was replaced at half-time by QPR.

QPR manager Ian Holloway:

"Villa started the second half brighter because they'd got that little tonic. Once we went one behind, it was then very tough for us.

"We've got to keep believing, because some of that stuff was excellent - the way we got it to our wing-backs and played down the side.

"I feel we played well and I'll take that performance. We just need to capitalise on the chances we created. I'm sure we had at least as many as them, if not more."

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce:

"The reaction when QPR scored was great and I thought we looked a very decent team, especially at the top end of the pitch.

"The way we played pleased me. We played it forward, were energetic and looked a threat. We did very well."
