Swansea Supporters Trust chairman Will Morris resigns

The chairman of the Swansea City Supporters' Trust has resigned after just five days in the role.

Will Morris has resigned after allegedly received "unwarranted, unjustified and potentially libellous comments directed at him."

The announcement comes just five days after his appointment and eight days after the resignation of former chairman Phil Sumbler.

A new chairman will be elected during the Trust's meeting next month.

The Supporters' Trust released a statement announcing Mr Morris' resignation to its members on Wednesday morning.

"Will had only recently, and reluctantly, taken on the chairman role and was keen to make an early effort to engage with fans on internet forums and social media," it stated.

"This however, was met with unwarranted, unjustified and potentially libellous comments directed at him.

"He was quite simply not prepared to put up with it himself, nor subject his family to this. He added that neither would he expect others doing their best in a voluntary role to have to do so."

The Supporters' Trust said they "sincerely hope this will not be repeated."

The Supporters' Trust currently own 21.1% of the club however talks are underway for the sale of half its stake to majority shareholders Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien.

Former chairman Mr Sumbler felt decisions taken by the club in recent years had damaged the working relations, which led to his resignation on 14 November after 11 years at the helm.
