Truro City are having their best-ever season, making the FA Cup first round and sitting in the top three of National League South

Travelling away from home can be an arduous task at the best of times, but spare a thought for National League South side Truro City.

Three away games in a week meant the White Tigers had to travel almost 1,700 miles to fulfil their fixture list.

"We've travelled 1,684 miles in the space of seven days - Land's End to John O'Groats and back is 1,680 miles," manager Lee Hodges told BBC Radio Cornwall.

If you add the 596-mile round trip that National League South side Truro took on when they faced League One side Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup first round, the club has travelled 2,280 miles in November.

To put that in context - in 21 days Truro have covered the same distance in a bus as it would be between their ground and Newfoundland in Canada, Batumi in Georgia or crossing the Volga River in Russia - and it is just 22 miles short of Timbuktu.

They made seven changes as they beat Isthmian League Division One South club Lewes 3-1 in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

That was after City got a 1-1 draw away at Braintree Town on Tuesday, having won 1-0 at Hungerford Town the previous Saturday.

"We've played three hard away matches this week so every player in my squad has had to be used and rotated to freshen things up," added Hodges.

Truro City have covered enough ground in November to have crossed the Atlantic

City faced a Lewes side who had lost just once in their league all season, but after a tight opening period player-assistant manager Chris Todd gave City a 28th-minute lead before Tyler Harvey got the second a minute later.

Andrew Neal made the game safe seven minutes before half-time with a third to put City into the first round of the FA Trophy.

"There is that chance to get to Wembley, the big guns from the National League come into it now, but let's see were it takes us," Hodges said.

"We want to win as many games a possible, we've had a great FA Cup run and wouldn't it be great to have an FA Trophy run as well?"
