Scottish League One: Ayr United stretch their lead to six points

Alan Forrest's late strike ensured Scottish League One leaders Ayr United won for the eighth time in a row.

Their 3-2 home victory over bottom side Queen's Park stretched the Honest Men's lead at the summit to six points.

Alloa Athletic climbed to third place with a 2-0 win at struggling Forfar Athletic, Kris Renton netting twice.

Ten-man Stranraer salvaged a 1-1 draw at East Fife through Ryan Wallace's goal, while Albion Rovers' meeting with Arbroath was postponed.

Raith Rovers, who have two games in hand over United, will aim to cut Ayr's advantage to three points when they travel to Airdrieonians on Sunday.

At Somerset Park, Craig Moore put Ayr ahead from the penalty spot after 24 minutes, after Lawrence Shankland was brought down, but the visitors turned things around with goals either side of the break.

Robbie Leitch headed home an equaliser in the 42nd minute before Queen's went ahead when Craig Reid turned the ball past his own goalkeeper Jordan Hart three minutes after the break.

But Ayr rallied and Declan McDaid levelled after 79 minutes before Forrest struck the late winner.

Renton's second-half double ensured Alloa bounced back following successive defeats by the league's top two, while Forfar remain a point off bottom spot.

Meanwhile, Chris Duggan put East Fife ahead midway through the first half before Wallace levelled 20 minutes from time.

Stranraer finished with 10 men when Liam Dick was dismissed for a second yellow card.
