Queens Park Rangers 0-1 Milton Keynes Dons

League One side MK Dons produced a battling performance to knock QPR out of the FA Cup in the third round.

Robbie Muirhead struck the post from the edge of the box for the away side before Ilias Chair curled wide.

Jack Robinson and Matt Smith spurned close-range chances for QPR before Ousseynou Cisse seized on a Josh Scowen error to curl into the top corner.

Lee Nicholls saved from Smith, while Luke Freeman had a shot cleared off the line, but the Dons held on.

Ian Holloway made one change from his Championship team which beat Cardiff 2-1 five days ago, but despite fielding a strong side Rangers fell to a side 25 places below them in the Football League.

The hosts had their chances to equalise, but Smith in particular was guilty of poor finishing, seeing Nicholls keep out a point-blank header before nodding Jake Bidwell's cross over.

QPR could not take advantage of seven minutes of added time, meaning they have been knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round 49 times in their history - only Plymouth have gone out at this stage more times with 50.

Defeat also extends Holloway's unhappy record in the competition, with the former Blackpool boss having now lost seven of his last eight FA Cup third-round ties.
