Bury have won just seven games in League One this season

Bury were relegated to League Two following a 3-2 defeat at home by Northampton that also kept the visitors' slim survival hopes alive.

Ash Taylor's early header from a Matt Grimes corner put Northampton in front before Bury levelled through Peter Clarke's close-range finish.

Sam Hoskins met Grimes' through ball to restore Northampton's lead before Danny Mayor made it 2-2 from 12 yards out.

But Taylor scored again from Dan Powell's cross for the late winner.

The Shakers go down to League Two with four games still to be played and three seasons in the division.

Northampton, who won for the first time under caretaker boss Dean Austin, move to within three points of safety with three games to play but sides above them have as many as two games in hand.
