Morecambe 0-1 Barnet

  • Published

Barnet's chances of English Football League survival were given a massive boost with a superb late goal from Alex Nicholls giving Martin Allen's side the win they needed to keep their hopes alive.

Substitute Nicholls produced a fine strike to volley past Barry Roche from the edge of the area to see off Morecambe.

The goal came after a sustained period of Barnet pressure and sealed a decisive win which leaves them just two points behind third-from-bottom Morecambe going into the final game.

The visitors controlled the second half and had it not been for Roche they could have won the game by a greater margin.

Roche produced a fine save from a Richard Brindley free-kick and went on to make another from Nicholls.

The first half was a scrappy affair with no clear-cut chances.

The best effort on goal came from Brindley when he flashed a shot just wide of the Morecambe goal from the right-hand side of the area.

Morecambe enjoyed the greater share of the possession but failed to test Craig Ross in the Barnet goal as their final ball let them down.
