David Cawley opened the scoring for Sligo Rovers in their victory over Derry City

Derry City suffered their fourth defeat in five matches on Friday night when they lost 2-0 at home to Sligo Rovers.

David Cawley scored the opener in the 11th minute and Lewis Morrison added the second on 47.

Cawley went round goalkeeper Gerard Doherty to score, while Morrison's goal was a sharp finish from a good turn.

The below-par Candystripes rarely threatened in what was Ronan Curtis's last game at the Brandywell before he moves to Portsmouth.

The visitors almost hit a third goal in the closing stages but Greg Moorhouse's effort struck a post.

Rory Hales and Conor McDermott had chances for Derry in the opening 10 minutes, but neither effort was on target.

Cawley's goal came from a Rhys McCabe pass and he showed good composure to go round the goalkeeper and slot home.

Two minutes into the second half, Morrison showed good movement to get on to a low ball, before swivelling and firing past Doherty.

Derry's next Premier Division outing is a difficult trip to Cork City on Monday.
