Burnley face Aberdeen in Europa League second qualifying round

Premier League side Burnley will play Scottish Premiership runners-up Aberdeen in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

The Clarets travel to Pittodrie on 26 July before hosting Derek McInnes' side at Turf Moor on 2 August.

Burnley finished seventh in England's top flight last season to secure European football for the first time in 51 years.

The Dons reached the third qualifying round of the Europa League last season.

"Everyone knows it could have been anything, looking at the draw with the amount of different teams from different countries involved, and lo and behold we get someone just up the road," Burnley boss Sean Dyche said.

"But we've worked hard to get here and we'll look forward to the challenge it brings," he told his club's website.

Aberdeen famously defeated Real Madrid in the 1983 Cup Winners' Cup final with Sir Alex Ferguson as manager.

They also won the European Super Cup that year, beating German side Hamburg.

But Dons boss Derek McInnes said: "We'll be playing against a team that has done exceptionally well in what is regarded as the best league in the world.

"There are favourites in every tie and they are seeded for a good reason.

"We know we will be big underdogs for this one but we'll be doing all we possibly can to cause an upset."

After Burnley's European future was secured, boss Dyche had a pub near the club's stadium named after him.
