Belgium 1-1 Netherlands: World number one side held in friendly
- Published
Belgium, jointly ranked the number one side in the world alongside France, were held to a draw in a friendly against the Netherlands in Brussels.
Napoli forward Dries Mertens gave the hosts the lead after just five minutes, curling a finish into the top corner.
But Arnaut Groeneveld equalised, stroking in from close range.
Netherlands, down to 17th in the world after failing to qualify for the past two major tournaments, have lost just one of their past seven games.
They are second in Nations League Group A1 behind France and host the world champions in Rotterdam on 16 November.
