Graham Barrow: Wrexham confirm interim boss as new manager

Graham Barrow played for Chorley, Southport, Altrincham, Wigan Athletic and Chester City

National League club Wrexham have confirmed Graham Barrow as their permanent manager.

Barrow, 64, has been in interim charge at the Racecourse Ground since Sam Ricketts left to join Shrewsbury Town.

Having previously managed Chester, Wigan Athletic, Rochdale and Bury, he now has a deal as Wrexham manager until the summer of 2021.

"Graham has impressed everyone since joining us in the summer," Wrexham said in a statement.

"Along with the current backroom staff, has been a massive part of a great start to the season.

"He was the outstanding candidate to build on that work and hits the ground running after several impressive displays by the team under his guidance."

Barrow, who was part of current Belgium manager Roberto Martinez's coaching team at Wigan, joined Wrexham in July as part of Ricketts' coaching team.

He recently signed a two-and-a-half year contract extension to continue as assistant manager.

After Ricketts' departure Barrow said he did not want the manager's job on a permanent basis.

Following his appointment, Barrow said: "In all honesty I was never not interested.

"It's just when you work with managers, there just has to be a cooling off period.

"Fortunately for me the board didn't appoint somebody straight away."

Barrow's first game in permanent charge of Wrexham, who are fourth in the National League, will be at Aldershot on Saturday.

He is expected to name an assistant manager in the coming days.
