Salford City 0-1 AFC Fylde

  • Published

Salford City's automatic promotion hopes suffered a serious blow after a narrow defeat by fellow high-flyers AFC Fylde.

Adam Rooney and Emmanuel Dieseruvwe both had opportunities to open the scoring for the hosts in the first half, but the Ammies went behind in the 32nd minute through Alex Reid's well-taken strike.

The Coasters almost doubled their advantage just before half-time when a deflected free-kick found Dan Bradley, who took a swing and a miss at the ball from close range.

After the break, Salford desperately searched for an equaliser and went closest through Rory Gaffney's header, which was brilliantly saved by Jay Lynch after 70 minutes.

But Fylde held on for the win to move up the fourth place, while Salford need Leyton Orient to lose their final game of the season while they beat Hartlepool to stand any chance of winning the title.
