Goals: County thrash Queens to clinch Championship title

Ross County secured an immediate return to the Scottish Premiership after beating struggling Queen of the South.

County, demoted in May last year, needed only a point to clinch the Championship title and went ahead through Ross Stewart's header.

Brian Graham headed home either side of a Josh Mullin strike to complete a resounding win for the Staggies.

And victory meant they could be presented with the trophy in their last home game of the season.

Defeat leaves Queens eighth in the table, level on points with second-bottom Alloa Athletic and three points above Falkirk while Greenock Morton and Partick Thistle are two points ahead of Gary Naysmith's side, who have played one game more.

The Dumfries side started brightly in Dingwall with Kyle Jacobs denied by goalkeeper Scott Fox and Michael Doyle came close with a shot from 25 yards that rattled the crossbar after Stewart's opener.

Stewart's goal came from a Mullin corner and Graham's header from six yards the double advantage came from another of the midfielder's deliveries following a short corner routine.

Mullin got himself on the scoresheet with a left-footed drive from just outside the box and Graham made it four when he met Tom Grivosti's deep cross.

County, co-managed by Steven Ferguson and Stuart Kettlewell, become the first team since Hearts in 2015 to bounce straight back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

And club captain Marcus Fraser told BBC Scotland: "It's massive. Promotion was the aim at the start of the game and ultimately at the start of the season. That's what we wanted to do and thankfully we've done that.

"You just knew it was going to be a good night. The boys have turned up and done it with style."
