George Moncur scored twice as Luton Town beat Oxford United to pip Barnsley to the League One title.

Both sides were promoted in midweek, but Luton's win combined with the Tykes' defeat at Bristol Rovers ensured the Hatters finished three points clear at the top.

Moncur gave them the best possible start by curling in a 25-yard free-kick and Elliott Lee doubled that advantage with a sweet strike just after half-time.

Oxford hit back when Luke Garbutt turned home a shot that rebounded off the post and they then piled on the pressure, only for Town to break away and make absolutely sure through Moncur's close-range finish.

It means Mick Harford's temporary spell in charge has ended with him clinching the third-tier title. He stepped in as interim boss when Nathan Jones left to join Stoke in January and will now now revert back to his previous role as head of recruitment.

Former Belgium and Everton assistant Graeme Jones was confirmed as the club's new manager on Thursday.
