Wales Under-21s suffered a heavy defeat by Germany in their European Championship 2021 qualifier in Wrexham.

Paul Bodin's side recorded a fine opening win over Belgium last Friday, but found Germany in irresistible form.

Robin Hack scored a hat-trick for the visitors before the half-hour mark and Johannes Eggestein made it 4-0.

Mark Harris' penalty gave Wales something to build on, but they immediately conceded again when Adrian Fein beat George Ratcliffe.

Germany were beaten by Spain in this summer's European Under-21 Championship final.

Wales U21 boss Paul Bodin:

"We're still looking at developing the players for the senior team; there's a number of players not here today who were in the squad last night [against Belarus] so perhaps we're not at full strength in terms of the actual players.

"But that happens with Wales, we're a small nation, and if they're good enough they'll move up to the senior group.

"Credit to this group of players, they've got a lot of heart and they certainly worked their socks off. Perhaps there was one or two out there tonight who haven't really recovered from the game Friday."
