Lee Alexander saved three penalties in the shootout
A stand-out performance from goalkeeper Lee Alexander helped Glasgow City edge past Brondby on penalties to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
The tie was level by half-time as Nanna Christiansen and Frederikke Lindhard wiped out Glasgow's first-leg lead.
Several fine stops from Alexander kept the hosts in it before her three saves in the shootout proved decisive as Jo Love sealed a 3-1 spot-kicks victory.
"It took your breath away, that one," City head coach Scott Booth said.
"It didn't go to plan first half but we came out in the second half and played really brave football.
"This is what we've been striving for four-and-a-half years - to get over that line and make the quarter-finals is amazing."
The Scottish champions secured a famous win in Denmark last week but were outplayed for long spells at Petershill Park.
City, bidding to reach the quarter-finals were just the second time in their history, were behind after six minutes as Christiansen sent a looping header into the net.
That set the tone for a rampant display from the slick Danes, with Lindhard lifting a second over Alexander.
Glasgow grew stronger in the second half and Jenna Clark almost won it in extra time, heading a Leanne Ross cross against the bar. But despite failing to muster a shot on target in 120 minutes, Booth's side weren't to be denied.
Ross, Eilish McSorley and Love netted from the spot, with Kirsty Howat and Megan Foley seeing their penalties saved by Brondby goalkeeper Katrine Abel.
"I've missed penalties in the past that have cost us," Love said. "A little bit of that preys on your mind but hopefully that's over now.
"Everyone stepped up tonight and it's been the same all season."
