Ross County have signed Oli Shaw from Hibernian for an undisclosed fee - despite Jack Ross saying he was not planning to lose the striker.

The 21-year-old, capped by Scotland at Under-19 and 21 level, scored 12 goals in 65 outings for Hibs.

Ross was keen to keep him but Shaw opted to leave in search of game-time.

"I was planning to lose him on loan, however the two clubs came to an agreement and Oli showed an appetite for that," the Hibs head coach said.

Shaw - who had spent four years at Hibs - made his County debut off the bench in Wednesday's Scottish Premiership 0-0 draw with Hearts.

"It's a big club and an opportunity to play football, so a fresh start for me," he said. "I spoke to the managers who were keen to get me up. They filled me with confidence that they really, really wanted me here."

Co-manager Steven Ferguson told BBC Scotland the fee the club have paid for Shaw is "really good business for Ross County".

"Oli is a player we've admired for a long time, even going back to the development squad at Hibs where he really caught our eye," Ferguson added.

"We believe he's really top level so this could be a really good stepping stone for Oli."

He becomes County's third signing of the January window, following defender Coll Donaldson and midfielder Jordan Tillson.

In February last year, Hibs chief executive Leeann Dempster referred to Shaw as "absolutely one of the best players, certainly in his age group, in Europe".

However, the striker struggled to force his way into the starting line-up of head coach Jack Ross or predecessor Paul Heckingbottom, with his most recent start coming at Celtic Park 11 months ago.

Following Shaw's arrival, fellow striker Brian Graham has left County to join Partick Thistle.
