FC Halifax Town 0-1 Ebbsfleet United

Gozie Ugwu scored the winning goal for the second successive game as Ebbsfleet boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win at promotion hopefuls FC Halifax.

Jack Redshaw had the first chance of the game in the 10th minute, wriggling into space before firing in a low strike that was held by goalkeeper Jordan Holmes.

Ebbsfleet broke quickly and forward Josh Umerah struck a post with a fierce drive. He was forced off shortly afterwards with an injury sustained when taking on the shot.

The visitors opened the scoring after 16 minutes when substitute Tomi Adeloye won the ball from Jerome Binnom-Williams on the byline and picked out in-form striker Ugwu, who fired in off the near post.

Redshaw curled a free-kick inches over the crossbar in the 26th minute and saw a goal-bound effort blocked by Jack King as Halifax responded before the break.

Second-half chances had been scarce until Ugwu broke through and sent a shot into the side-netting in the 67th minute.

An audacious effort with the outside of the boot from Binnom-Williams looked to be heading for the top corner only for a defender to head clear as Ebbsfleet held on to move within a point of 20th-placed Wrexham.
