Dave Cormack says Aberdeen have worked hard to improve "transparency" with fans

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has urged the SPFL to "look seriously at how governance and transparency can be improved".

Clubs voted against an independent investigation into April's SPFL ballot to end the lower league season.

The Dons were one of the 13 who voted in favour of an inquiry, with 27 against and two abstentions.

"It's clear there is much work to be done between the SPFL and member clubs," said Cormack.

"We've been on a crusade at AFC to dramatically improve fan engagement and being transparent with our fans, letting them know exactly what the club is facing and what's behind our decisions, is central to this.

"We expect and deserve the same transparency from the SPFL."

Cormack said Aberdeen respect Tuesday's vote result and believes that coronavirus, which has caused the suspension of sport since March, means Scottish football "is facing a crisis unlike anything we've ever experienced before".

"[Aberdeen] will continue to work collaboratively with the SPFL and all clubs in a determined and focused drive to get back to playing football, safely, and as soon as we possibly can," he added.

Cormack publicly backed an investigation on Monday, saying it could draw a line under a "highly damaging episode" and cited "a distressing lack of confidence and trust between the SPFL leadership and many of the clubs".
