James Beattie and Darryl Flahavan have joined Sheffield Wednesday after leaving Birmingham City's coaching staff on Tuesday.

Beattie, 42, will become manager Garry Monk's assistant, with Flahavan, 41, taking the goalkeeper coach role.

The Owls have also appointed former Sheffield United Under-23s boss Andrew Hughes as first-team coach.

Beattie and Flahavan left St Andrew's as part of a reshuffle after Aitor Karanka's appointment as head coach.

Head of physical performance Sean Rush has also left Birmingham, who joined along with Beattie and Flahavan when Monk became manager there in March 2018.

They all stayed on when Monk was sacked in June 2019 but, after Pep Clotet succeeded him, Beattie was not involved with first-team duties.

Monk was appointed manager of Wednesday in September 2019.

They finished 16th in the Championship last season, will start the 2020-21 campaign on -12 points for breaching spending rules.

Blues finished 20th in the Championship, avoiding relegation by just two points.
