Aberdeen best place to show what I can do - McCrorie

Ross McCrorie says he had to leave Rangers "for the good of my career" after joining Aberdeen on loan before starting a three-year deal next summer.

The 22-year-old, who can also play in central defence, made the move in search of regular game time.

He had been the subject of offers from Hibernian and spent last season on loan at English League One club Portsmouth.

"I feel at the age I am at I just want to be playing regular first-team football," McCrorie said.

"That's why I told Rangers I wanted to leave. It's for the good of my career that I had to leave, to develop as a player. I feel Aberdeen is the right place for me to improve myself."

Dons boss Derek McInnes said he was "looking forward to helping him [McCrorie] try to fulfil his potential in an Aberdeen shirt".

McCrorie has made 105 senior club appearances, scoring four goals, including one against Aberdeen for Rangers in 2018.

"Everything that the gaffer said was right for me and I felt immediately as if this was the place for me to come and move my game on," McCrorie told Red TV.

"I've played against Aberdeen in the past and what I liked about the gaffer is that he knew exactly how I played."

McInnes added: "Given the financial restrictions the club are under at the moment, we don't have the ability to pay a fee, so the first year is a loan deal.

"However, he then becomes our player, and signing a young, Scottish player with his talent and potential is exactly the type of signing Aberdeen Football Club should be making."
