Talks between Celtic and Motherwell over David Turnbull are ongoing, according to manager Neil Lennon.

However, Lennon has "no idea" how close the clubs are to reaching agreement.

Celtic have renewed their pursuit of the Scotland Under-21 attacking midfielder 14 months after their £3m move was scuppered by Turnbull failing his medical because of a knee problem.

He has since undergone surgery and featured in Motherwell's five games this season.

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor says the "excellent" Turnbull would be a welcome addition.

Lennon refused to be drawn further on potential transfers, insisting his side's Champions League qualifier against Ferencvaros on Wednesday is too important for "distractions".

The Celtic boss says Champions League football "probably ranks second" to the domestic campaign, with the club chasing an unprecedented 10th title in a row, but wants his side to reach the "blue riband" group stage.

Celtic hammered KR Reykjavik 6-0 at home in the previous round, but are braced for a "big step up" in opposition when Hungarian champions Ferencvaros come to Glasgow for their one-off tie behind closed doors.

"It's early to get a team of this quality. We've done a lot of work on them and will show them the utmost respect," said Lennon.

"Ferencvaros had some very good results in the Europa League last season, and a pretty comfortable win over Djurgarden in the previous round. We expect a really tough game. The only advantage is we are at home."

Lennon also said he'll have to examine in more detail a new rule from Fifa which would let clubs stop players travelling for international matches due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
