Josh Brownhill scored a stunning goal as Burnley beat Millwall to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Midfielder Brownhill fired in his first Clarets goal on the brink of half-time with a superb driven effort from 30 yards that flew into the corner.

Striker Matej Vydra grabbed a late second to seal the victory for the Premier League outfit.

Burnley will host either Manchester City or Bournemouth, who play on Thursday, in the next round.

There was cause for concern for Clarets boss Dyche when striker Jay Rodriguez had to be replaced in the opening 20 minutes after picking up a knock.

However, Dyche did confirm after the win that Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens is expected to join the club on Wednesday or Thursday.

Championship side Millwall's best chance came in the opening moments as Matt Smith had a header palmed away by debutant goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Burnley's Matt Lowton fired wide from the edge of the box, and Burnley looked in control after Brownhill's wonderful opener.

Substitute Chris Wood could have added a second for the visitors but headed wide from Dwight McNeil's cross.
