'We made a cup tie out of it'
Fleetwood 2-5 Everton
Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton to Sky Sports: "It was a tough learning lesson for some of our young players. We showed too much respect in the first period but made it a cup tie in the second half. We had Everton worried at one stage."
Would a home crowd have made a difference? "We've seen it down the years, a crowd getting behind the team can give you momentum. Who knows? We let them off the hook by conceding soon afterwaards.
"Newcastle won 7-0 and Chelsea won 6-0. At half-time and 2-0 down you're worried if the galacticos go into overdrive. Thankfully we made a cup tie out of it.
"Now it's back to the bread and butter of the league."
'The first of many great nights'
Chelsea 6-0 Barnsley
Chelsea
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard on Kai Havertz: "It was a great exericse for him, another game to see how we want to work off the ball, but also have freedom on the ball and combinations with Tammy [Abraham]. It's the first of many great nights for him."
'A positive for lots of players'
Stoke 1-0 Gillingham
Stoke City
Stoke manager Michael O'Neill: "We dominated the game from start to finish, that's a very pleasing performance.
"A lot of our play was excellent, but we need to be better in the final third. My ears are bleeding after that [match] though their bench were screaming for everything.
"But we dominated the game and clearly deserved to win it. It's early in the season, but tonight was a positive for a lot of the players.
"It was great ball from Jordan Thompson to pick Tyrese [Campbell] out.
He is at his best in that situation and showed a cool head.
"Jordan was on the ball all night and played a lot of good
passes, he can play between the lines and switch the play and that’s why we
brought him to this club”

'Three games to the final'
Fleetwood 2-5 Everton
Everton
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti to Sky Sports: "The performance in the first half was good. We didn't start the second half with intensity. The game was in control in the end.
"Their performance was good. Alex Iwobi did well. It was not easy to prepare, we have a lot of games.
"Momentum is good."
On Jordan Pickford's mistake for the goal: "It was a general mistake [by the team]".
Is this cup winnable? "We have to try to do our best. It's an important competition. A short competition. Three games to the final."
Any signings? "I have 31 players in the squad. It's too much."

Daniel Cheng: Not vintage or dominant but job done in the end #LeiArs
Davy: NUFC fans have been saying it for a very long time, Pickford might have good reflexes but his mentality is dreadful. Panicky and you can’t say he inspires confidence in his defence. Never England GK. Pickford is the 2nd worst GK in the league. Kepa the worst ofc.
'The attitude pleased me'
FT: Morecambe 0-7 Newcastle
Newcastle United
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "The attitude really pleased me. We set about them and moved the ball quickly. I wished they had stayed with 11 because with 10 men they really did sit behind the ball.
"It was a good night because too often we have come unstuck on nights like this. This is why you need a squad of players. I hope I can pick the rightbteam because two or three of these have given me a headache.
"There is always a hysteria around Newcastle and we need to respond with a good result. We are certainly stronger than we were 10 months ago. My job is to keep moving the club forward."
Aamer: Some clubs making good progress. Could never imagine Arsenal beating Leicester away under Emery or Newcastle scoring seven against anyone under Benitez.
Chris: Just imagine if Everton had a competent GK...
Post update
FT: Chelsea 6-0 Barnsley

'Shows confidence and belief we have'
FT: Fleetwood 2-5 Everton
Everton

"Everyone wants to play. Hopefully I can get involved as much as I can.
"We're targeting every competition. Hopefully we can beat West Ham as well."
