Southend United remain rooted to the bottom of League Two after slumping to defeat at Tranmere Rovers.
Peter Clarke headed a 31st-minute opener for Rovers, who edged possession throughout, with their first attempt on target.
And James Vaughan added a second home goal after the break, scoring with a 25-yard shot that took a crucial deflection before finding the net.
Tranmere's win means they move up to 15th with nine points from eight games, while the Blues have just two draws from a winless eight-match start to the league season.
