Josh Koroma's opener against Millwall was his second league goal of the season

Millwall lost their unbeaten home record as two late goals wrapped up a deserved win for Huddersfield.

Town went ahead against the run of play, Adama Diakhaby nodding Alex Pritchard's floated pass into the box where Josh Koroma guided a low shot into the bottom corner.

The Lions, who were without manager Gary Rowett for a second game after his positive Covid-19 test, huffed and puffed, but the visitors always carried the greater threat.

Pipa made sure of the points when Bartosz Bialkowski could not keep out his stinging drive, before Juninho Bacuna's weighted pass teed up Lewis O'Brien to place his shot past the home keeper.

Huddersfield had won just two of their past 13 away league trips and were on the back foot early on as the Lions forced a string of corners.

But after going ahead, Town controlled possession for long spells of the first half as the hosts struggled to get a foothold - with Connor Mahoney, their biggest threat, forcing keeper Ben Hamer to push a shot around the post just before the break.

The Lions once more tried to force the pace after the break, but the well-marshalled Town defence held them at arm's length and broke with purpose.

Diakhaby and Isaac Mbenza both went close to doubling the lead around the hour mark, sending low drives inches wide after strong runs into the box.

Having scored more than a single goal just once this season, the late double from Pipa and O'Brien sent Carlos Corberan's men into new territory this season and earned their third win at The Den in their past four visits.

Millwall, who should welcome back Rowett on Monday, slipped out of the play-off places to seventh, while Huddersfield moved up to 12th.

Millwall club captain Alex Pearce:

"We're bitterly disappointed. I felt that we started the game very slowly, the first 15 minutes especially.

"I was pleased with the way we were playing towards the end of the first half, just moving it with more intensity, the way we were pressing, the way we were passing the ball and more on the front foot.

"I was pleased with the way that we responded to the goal and I thought we had a go in the second half, without causing them any real difficulty at the back.

"That's the other disappointing thing from today; that it was our end-product where we let ourselves down."

Huddersfield head coach Carlos Corberan:

"I think the team showed in some moments a very good performance - I think from minute seven to minute 35, we dominated the first half and created some chances.

"We had to feel that we could retake control of the game - it was something really important because if you don't take control of the game, you are going to suffer.

"The second half was a clear improvement of the team because we played with a little bit more personality."
