Greenock Morton 3-2 Ayr United: Three goals in last seven minutes snatch win

  • Published

Morton scored three times in the last seven minutes to snatch an unlikely Scottish Championship win against 10-men Ayr United.

Ayr had lead after Cammy Smith's driven ball deflected in off Lewis Strapp and Smith added to that lead after the sending off of team-mate Aaron Muirhead for a horror tackle on Aiden Nesbitt.

However, the real drama was still to come with three goals in five minutes.

Gary Oliver and Cammy Blues hauled Morton level, before Strapp's winner.

Morton manager David Hopkin: "When we scored, I felt the tide would turn. Our attitude was terrific. A two-goal lead can be a nervous one."

Ayr United player-manager Mark Kerr: "We were terrific in the first half but I couldn't believe the defending at the goals. We switched off for all of them."
