Matt Dolan's late penalty gave League Two leaders Newport County victory over Morecambe at Rodney Parade.

Padraig Amond guided in the opener off Scott Twine's headed pass for Michael Flynn's side,

The visitors hit back before the break through Carlos Mendez Gomes, but Dolan broke the deadlock after Stephen Hendrie was sent off for a goalmouth foul on Josh Sheehan.

Defeat sent Derek Adams' Morecambe down a place to 12th in the table.

Newport County manager Michael Flynn said:

"In the first half I thought some of the football we played was exceptional. We played some really good stuff second half but we were a little bit cavalier and didn't create as much.

"It was a pleasing win against a tough Morecambe team who have got one of the best away records in the division and came to counter.

"It's nothing more than what we deserved."
