Luke McCowan's strike salvaged a point for Ayr United

Player-manager Mark Kerr gave away a penalty but his Ayr United side recovered to draw 1-1 with Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship.

Aidan Nesbitt put Morton in front from the spot after Kerr, making his first start of the season, bundled over Cameron Salkeld.

But Luke McCowan levelled seven minutes before the break, lashing in after Joe Chalmers' free-kick.

The draw stretches Morton's unbeaten run to three matches.

In contrast, Ayr are now without a win in four league matches, but remain in sixth place with Morton one point ahead in fifth.

Ayr United manager Mark Kerr: "I didn't think it was a penalty, I got a clear touch on the ball. We have to win games like this when it's an abbreviated season."

Morton interim manager Anton McElhone: "A draw was probably the right result. We are showing a fabulous spirit. There is a belief in our dressing room."
